Guidelines on prayers in schools and colleges

March 2021

Prayer is one of the things which is distinctive about chaplaincy. As Chaplains, we are called to pray with and for our schools and colleges.

Our prayers can be:
+ collective, at times when the whole school or college community gather;
+ corporate, when students and staff voluntarily gather to pray;
+ individual when the chaplain prays alone as part of their daily prayers and in times of crisis or hope;
+ pastoral, when chaplains are praying with within a pastoral relationship with students, staff or parents.

This PDF outlines guidelines for prayer in a school and college setting and points to consider if policy making / writing.

Moved by Hope - a Salesian message

February 2021

Each year, the Rector Major offers a 'strenna' (Italian for 'gift') to the worldwide Salesian Family, as a theme to guide our thoughts, prayers and actions for the next twelve months. In 2021, Fr Angel's Strenna is 'Moved by hope', inspired by our current global pandemic and the biblical passage 'See, I am making all things new' (Revelation 21:5).

As Christians, we are characterised by hope, and as a Salesian Family, we follow Don Bosco in seeking positive ways help those in need, especially the young, doing all we can to share the joy and hope of God even in the darkest of times.

In the video below, Fr Angel outlines the strenna, and others in the Salesian Family speak about reaching out to people in these times of isolation, loneliness, loss and great material need, and the importance of hope in our present situation.
