The Revd Mike Haslam shares his reflections of the month.
This month Mike asks: In the upper room with the disciples, in your school or college, here and now, what is your prayer this Easter tide? Where is Jesus sending you? How, within your school or college chaplaincy can you live and share peace, justice, forgiveness, discipleship, love?
The doors are locked in the upper room. Everyone is terrified and confused. Join the disciples in that space for a moment. What is it like? What do you fear? What are the terrors and doubts that haunt your school or college community?
Into that upper room comes peace.
Into that space comes Jesus.
The wounds in his hands and his side show his vulnerability and his strength, his courage and his compassion. How do you share peace with those around you?
When do you long for courage and compassion?
The room is transformed by Christ’s presence, relief and rejoicing reign. Look at the disciples eyes, what do you see there? Can you recognise that look from your eyes, or those who you know, when you encounter Jesus? ‘Go.’ Jesus says, ‘Go out with peace and joy, courage and compassion, go share my love, go make disciples, go challenge injustice, go forgive in my name, go as people of peace, go…’
Where is Jesus sending you? How, within your school or college chaplaincy can you live and share peace, justice, forgiveness, discipleship, love?
Breathe, and receive the Holy Spirit. Allow the Spirit of God to fill you, as it fills creation, resting on the waters, as it fills the disciples, sending them out into the world as new creations…Allow the Spirit of God to fill you.
In the upper room with the disciples, in your school or college, here and now, what is your prayer this Easter tide?
