6th April 2020
Dear Members of CCE,
At this time of turmoil in the world, of social isolation and distancing please know that you have been and are in our prayers each day.
‘Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid’.
He also said in John 16 that ‘a time would come’ when the disciples would be scattered, each to their own home. At that point he encouraged them:
‘I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.’
As we turn to the Lord in our current challenges, we can be confident that nothing is happening of which he is unaware, nor is it something that is out of his control however that may feel.
As we seek God in these times, I am reminded of St John of the Cross, who wrote of the ‘dark night of the soul’. We have all had those times in our lives and for many, this is that time. My prayer is that we may find the truth of God’s presence and the hope that comes from knowing Him.
I am sure you have been looking for ways to support your communities and continue to serve them. I would love to hear from you if you have discovered a creative way of supporting your school/college community so that we can share your ideas with others. It is always such an encouragement and inspiration to hear how others are using their time and talents.
We are looking at how we can serve you most effectively in the coming days. I am meeting (Zoom is great!) with other leaders this week to consider how to do so. Please let me know what you would like from us. All ideas are welcome.
I hope you have heard/seen that I have opened a ‘Chaplains Prayer room’ on Zoom and we meet every morning at 8.30 for 30-40 minutes of prayer. Do join us if you are able. The code for doing so is: 227-482-842.
I have asked Paul for a list of all our members so that we can pray for you individually. Please let us have your prayer requests so that we can pray in an informed way. I am also really happy to have a chat with you if you would like one. Please feel free to call me on:
There are an increasing number of resources available to support you in all sorts of ways. It is great that so many are responding to the changes with resources for worship at home, live streamed/recorded worship, and may more besides. I am sure you have already been looking. Each time I write I will highlight some of them and there will also be links on our website. If you have found some that you think would help others please let us know at:
Finally, one of the things we would like to offer, at the start of next term, is a chance for a ‘chat’. More to come next week in my next email!
May you know the peace of God which passes all understanding today and as we head into Holy week.
God bless you,
